Joint & Contract Research
We accept requests for the following types of research and collaboration:
・Collaborative Research
Collaborative research is suitable for long-term or large-scale projects in which both the university and the partner organization contribute personnel, resources, and funding.
A formal research agreement with Osaka University is required. Subject to university approval, the collaboration may also be publicly announced through press releases and other official communications.
・Contract Research
Contract research allows organizations to commission research through Osaka University and the Matsui Lab. This option is suitable when the partner organization wishes to have relatively limited involvement while benefiting from university-led research.
A formal contract with Osaka University is required. Subject to university approval, the project may also be publicized through official press releases and other communications.
・Advisory and Consulting Services
Organizations may also engage Professor Matsui directly for advisory or consulting services outside the framework of university collaboration.
This option is recommended when collaboration with Osaka University is not required. Because the contract is made directly with Professor Matsui rather than the university, it cannot be promoted as an official university collaboration, but the contracting process is generally simpler.
・Participation in Research Projects
Organizations and individuals are also welcome to participate in or support research conducted by the Matsui Lab.
In most cases, participation in research projects does not require the formal procedures described above.
・Pro Bono Support for Public Interest Projects
Within the limits of my academic responsibilities, I also provide pro bono consulting for projects that contribute to the public good, including initiatives led by local governments and nonprofit organizations.
Although my availability is limited, I am happy to contribute my experience as a former management consultant, psychologist, and data scientist. Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your project.

Through courses such as Introduction to Consulting, students work on real-world projects in collaboration with local governments and private organizations.
